From the Students

Regional Cross Country - By Hannah A
On Tuesday the 27th of May I went to St Arnaud to do Regional cross country. The course was very tough and hilly and everyone there was exceptional at running. It was a very short, fast race, in fact, faster than almost any other race that day! In the end I finished 13th at a time of 13:57, one second slower than the person who came 12th. To qualify for state, I had to place 12 or under. Even though I missed out on state by one second I still had a great time!

Race Around Australia - By Maggie and Phoebe
In Inquiry Groups, Middle W and Middle D are using what we have learnt about Australia to make board games. They need to include: two national landmarks, two native plants, two natural formations, all of the capital cities and two native animals. The other squares have things to make the game more interesting like, ‘go back two spaces’ or ‘jump to Go!’ We’ve been working on the games for three weeks and have been having a lot of fun with our buddies. We can’t wait to test them out!

Learning about Ai Weiwei in Art - By Sienna, Jamie and Margot
Ai Weiwei is the most famous artist from China. He was born in 1957 and then moved to New York at a young age. New York was very different to China and so, when he moved back to China, he thought that lots of the rules were unfair. He stood up for what he believed in and this caused the government to be angry and so, unfairly he even went to jail for 88 days.

He has made lots of incredible and significant artwork, including a tribute to people who were tragically killed in an earthquake.

In the NGV there was a room where Ai Weiwei got people to make artworks out of Lego. He didn’t do the work, he told the staff how to do it and where to put each piece. To make this art, Ai asked people to donate their old Lego, even though the company Lego didn’t want him to!

From the Office

Hesket Presents at Statewide Principal Conference
Earlier this week, Mrs Thomas and I attended the Victorian Principals Conference at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre where we ran a workshop on Hesket’s approach to Literacy, particularly in the early years.

In the session we shared Hesket’s experience of embedding an evidence-based reading model into a small school.

All staff had input into our presentation and our attendees on the day had many questions for us and appreciated us sharing our work. We were left feeling incredibly proud of what we have established in our school, and proud again as we shared the work and achievements of our students.
