Swimming Reminder
Next week we are looking forward to our week-long intenstive swimming lessons at Kyneton Aquatic Centre. Here are some reminders. Don't forget:
  • bathers (if wearing two-piece or shorts, ideally wear under uniform to minimise the number of students needing to change)
  • goggles
  • a swim cap
  • a towel
  • a change of clothing for Thursday's safety swimming session (to replicate accidentally slipping into water). More information will be coming home during the week about this
  • a swimming bag - if you don't have one, a cooler-style supermarket bag is a great option.
*Please ensure that everything is labelled. Despite our best efforts we always have a pile of 'lost property'.

Sushi Lunch Orders
As we will be swimming next week, there will be no lunch orders. We will instead have sushi lunch orders in the last week of term.

From the Students

Middle D and Middle W Writing
Middle W and Middle D spent some time together earlier this week to complete some writing. Their task was to fix some very boring sentences, and fix them they did! The starting sentence was, 'There was a wave'. Here are some examples of them fixing this very boring sentence with the added challenge of not using the word 'wave'.

The ginormous bump in the sea dashes forwards as it tries to reach shore. It is a colossal monster disturbing the ocean's peace. As it smashes into a cliff, it shatters into a million pieces of water. By Alex

A furious, colossal blue monster of bubbling water was hurtling straight to shore. Burning my ears, haunting my body, it smashed, crashed and shattered against the bottomless cliff. By Annabel

The icy blue and monstrous ocean crashed against the rocks as black as soot. The sound projects in the air, paining my freezing ears. By Esme

The swirling, freezing cold water whipped and swirled as it crashed down with all its might. A humungous amount of water goes up, up, up and up and then “crash” went the humungous wave as it went to the shore. By Grace

The furious, colossal, swirling, deep, ice blue water cliff came crashing down on the charcoal rocks as I paddle faster and faster. I then make it to shore as I rest my hands on my lap. By Heidi

The wave is very cold, crashing and it is deep. The wave is big, be careful sometimes you will fall. Also it's dark, blue and it is furious. By Lulu

The demolishing, tsunami like, colossal mountain of swelling water crashes against the high rocky cliffs. By Jamie

The colossal, deep sea blue outraged the mountain of water, flooding the city. The petrified people ran for their lives. By James B

The beautiful sparkling high-flying body of water, salty like the sea and as fresh as a drop of water. It sparkles when it crashes against the shore. By Sienna

There was a colossal, furious and dark body of water. The freezing cold water whipped around in circles, heading for shore. The water was getting darker and bumpier. It hit the shore hard. The water crashed onto the slippery, wet rocks. By Zoe D

A humungous deep-sea blue, swirling body of water carving into a hook shape as it hits the hull of a boat. By Woody

A humungous, gigantic and crystal clear mountain of water chased me to shore - when the other people saw it they played in it. I stayed back just in case (safety first!) By Jobe

There was a humungous and outraged gush of water. There was a colossal, crashing and foamy mountain range of water - I swim for my life. By Oscar R

There was a colossal, furious and dark body of water. The freezing cold water whipped around in circles, heading for shore. The water was getting darker and bumpier. It hit the shore hard. The water crashed onto the slippery, wet rocks. By James J

The bright blue water swirled into a huge mountain and slowly crashed back down into the sea. The humungous water peak got louder and bigger, making my ears ache in pain. By Phoebe

The giant body of water flipped boats and smashed into rocks. It sounds like screaming and it crushes the boats. By William

The majestic deep sea blue, calming splashing mountain of water crashes into the bottomless cliff. I am standing safely on the amber golden sand. By Ellina

Netball - By Middle D
This week we were lucky enough to have two sessions of netball with our special visitors from Netball Victoria. We practised shoulder passes, chest passes, pivoting and shooting. We practised these skills by doing drills and then we were lucky enough to play a real game of netball! We discover that netball can be epic and entertaining!

These are some of our highlights:

“I liked being able to hold the ball instead of having to dribble it like in soccer.” By Margot

“It was amazing when the green team scored three times, even though I was on the blue team.” By Annabel

“I liked being the goal shooter because I was the one who scored three goals for the green team.” By Felix

“I liked being in Centre because I got to start the game.” by James

“I enjoyed being Goal Keeper because I got to throw the ball back in every time it went out.” By Indy

“I liked playing Goal Defence position because I was good at it.” By Woody

“I liked playing in Centre position because you got to go pretty much anywhere.” By Jamie

Social Stencil - By Senior R
These sessions on a Monday afternoon have given us lots of opportunities to hear about different scenarios that we come across in life and to role play our way through them positively. We have learnt about different friendship styles, how to problem solve when we find ourselves in the drama triangle and how to deescalate situations.

Our focus this week was on looking at the difference between being aggressive and being assertive. We played out moments and considered how things turn out differently when we respond in different ways.

Being aggressive can look and feel like anger, it can be scary and powerful. It uses up a lot of energy and you can end up saying things that hurt others even when you don't mean them. Being aggressive can feel out of control and can be hard to stop.

Being assertive feels much more in control. We think of it as standing up for yourself, being serious and being firm but fair. This is something we can all keep practising and certainly something to talk more about at home. How do we respond to situations in a way that is assertive but not aggressive?

Pyjama Day for MND - By Emily M and Izzy
Today at school we raised $210 to support research into helping find a cure for MND. Classrooms were colourful and bright because of the vibrant assortment of  the wakky pyjamas. Never have we seen so many oodies! It was much warmer with a dressing gown draped around your shoulders and we took advantantage of the comfort of the slippers! We love pyjama day and hope to have another soon!

Happy Birthday To...
