School Concert - 'Destination Hesket'

As you will have no doubt heard, preparations are well and truly underway for this year's concert. Today each family has received a ticket order form. As per usual, we initially limit tickets to four per family; we generally have a second release once all ticket order forms are returned.

On the day of the concert, students will participate in a full day of rehearsals at Romsey Mechanics Institute, ahead of the evening show. Traditionally many families are able to drop off and pick their children up from the theatre at usual school times. We realise that this impacts students who typically attend before or after school care on Thursdays and are working with School's Out for possible alternatives, e.g. students are transported from before care to Romsey by the School's Out mini bus. School's Out will make contact with families over the next few weeks to gain an idea of need on this day.

Information will be coming home shortly regarding props or costumes that we will be asking students to bring from home. All students will be asked to wear a black base costume. For familes new to the school, we always aim to keep the concert as simple (and fun) as possible, so items from home will be minimal.

From the Students

Science – By Middle D
Over the last fortnight in Science, Middle D and Science Sam made hot air balloons because we are learning about heat. We used canes to make large rings. We then attached dry cleaning bags around the rings with sticky tape. We made a cross with wire that sat on the ring and put a cotton ball in the middle of the cross. We then attached a piece of string to make sure our hot air balloons wouldn’t fly away. Sam poured ethanol onto the cotton ball and lit it on fire with a match. We then got to watch our hot air balloons fly! The reason hot air balloons rise is because of the heat inside of them. We also learned about how air works. When air is hot, it rises. The flame heats up the air and the molecules become more spaced apart than they were before, so they bounce around to make it rise. We really enjoyed having team names for our hot air balloon groups and our favourite part was watching them bob along the sky.

Girls Tee ball in Bendigo - By Izzy and Aurelia
Earlier in the year, the Girls Teeball team won the Cobaw interschool sports round robin and then got through to the finals! Last Monday, we travelled to Bendigo to compete against Swan Hill Primary School in the Regional championships. We had three innings and even though it was our best performance, we sadly lost. We had an amazing time and wish Swan Hill Primary luck in the next round.
