Tournament of Minds - Art Team - By Emily
Staying inside during winter is one of the best benefits of Tournament of Minds. Then there’s the before school cereal, the holiday cheese sandwiches and the weekend brunches, but the obvious choice is the feeling of standing on that square, reciting your lines to a grinning audience. On the 16th of August my team and I competed at the Regional level of T.O.M. We walked into the building full of teams practising and nervously reciting their lines, made some frantic last minute costume adjustments and then hauled our stuff upstairs. We began our performance full of anxiety and finished full of pride. The moment we left that room, finally finished, we were filled with relief. The rest of the day was spent laughing about minor mistake and costume failures.
Courtesy of Ada, we all got to spend the night celebrating all of our hard work together at an after party. It was the perfect ending to a hectic month.
Thankfully the judges didn’t keep us waiting for our results long. On Monday, Zoe got a message from Geraldine saying that the Arts team won! And to somehow make things even better, not long after, we got our more detailed feedback, announcing that we did an incredible job in all aspects of the competition.
I feel that I speak for everyone on the Arts team when I say that, we can’t wait for the next round!
Tournament of Minds - Language Literacture Team - By Micah
This year in Tournament of Minds, the Language Literature team worked hard on reimagining the book Cicada by Shaun Tan. We came into school on the holidays and every recess and lunch leading up to the competition. Everyone had a great time making props, costumes and writing the scripts.
On the 16th of August we went to La Trobe University. First, we watched the Arts team perform first and then we went to our performance. We had a great time performing to friends, families and judges.
Then we went onto our spontaneous challenge. Our challenge was to figure out who took the number eleven away from the world and why. When we finished the judges looked at us in a way that didn’t give us any clue as to how we went.
To finish up, we had a wonderful after party at Ada’s house to celebrate all our hard work. And a few days later we got the results. (Drumroll please) all the hard work that we did paid off. We won!
Athletics Day - By Ada
Last Athletics Day was so fun, and some of us did so well, we’re going to the next level. Amelia, Hannah, Ivy, and Ada are all going to the next Athletics Say. Amelia and Ivy are going to compete in the 100-metre sprint, Ivy is competing in the 200-metre sprint as well. Hannah will run in the 1500-metres, and Ada is going to compete in shot put. We are all going to be training for the competition in two weeks. The next round of athletics is still at the La Birpa Bendigo Athletics Complex, like last time. The Athletics Day is going to be on the last week of school and the day after Tournament of Minds, so everyone’s going to be so tired by the school holidays!
