*Can any parent volunteers for the day please send through their Working With Children cards. We note that some cards we have on file have recently expired.
Wellbeing News
In the last two weeks, we have all had an opportunity to practise the mindfulness and relaxation exercise of Five-Finger Breathing.
It is a simple but powerful breathing technique that you can do just about anywhere. It can help you to focus, manage big feelings and recover a sense of calm. The process is a multisensory experience where you concentrate on more than just the breath. You also focus on the sensation of one hand touching the other. This helps to feel more relaxed and can release your ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters, endorphins. These are your body’s natural painkillers, and they may enhance your mood and lower stress.
Start by holding one hand in front of you with your fingers spread. Slowly trace outside your hand with the index finger on your other hand, breathing in when you trace up a finger, and out when you trace down. We use our nose to breath, rather than the mouth.

Easter Raffle
Our fundraising committee is putting together an Easter raffle as our second fundraiser of the year. We are asking families to donate an egg that will be bundled up to form one of the end of term prizes. A box for donations will be in the foyer from next week until the 20th of March. (If warm weather continues, it may be in the back office.) We thank you for your support!
Prep's First Full Week at School - Jnr T
Can you believe our Preps have been at school for 21 days now? They have really settled in well. They are so excited to now be attending school full-time from this week too. The Preps have been up to so many things like playing with their friends in the Fairy Garden, out on the basketball court and even playing some tennis with their Buddies. In the classroom they have already taken home their first home readers and are very busily learning their Camera Words. You wouldn’t believe how amazing their handwriting is! Each day they are practising away on their whiteboards, forming each of their letters so well. With all of this hard work, sometimes you might see them doing a bit of gentle yoga or meditation in the afternoons. This keeps everyone feeling super calm and relaxed… especially after all the fun of getting their first icy poles or sushi for lunch. These Preps are all off and flying and certainly ready for a great year ahead!
Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Snr D
This term, in Senior D, we are reading Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Journey to the Centre of the Earth is an old, thrilling, adventure novel from the 1800s, written in French by Jules Verne, then translated to English, and now it’s our class novel. Uncle Lidenbrock, a high-status, irascible geologist, has found a piece of parchment by Arne Saknussem, which he was unable to decipher. Thankfully, his nephew, Axel, cracked the code, finding the key to the journey of a lifetime. Along the journey, we meet some major and minor characters along the way that each play a part in the story. Some other characters in the book are Axel’s beloved Grauben, the maid, Martha, Hans the tour guide and Mr. Fredrickson. We are reading this book as our class novel because it is an archaic text, which helps us to build our vocabulary and expand our novel choices when we are reading independently. We are trying to read a range of books from different time periods, and this particular book is a timeless classic featuring adventure, and a lot of other exciting themes. We are reading this novel to improve the quality of literature that we read, which helps us to be better readers. Bri has been reading this book and we’ve been doing activities that focus on our vocabulary, understanding of characters, and reading parts of the book as a whole class to develop our reading fluency. Time flies when we’re learning about this novel. We can’t wait to solve the mysteries of the centre of the earth!
Athletics Practise - Junior W
In Junior W we have began to practise for the athletics day. We have been practising vortex, shot put and discus. I enjoyed shot put because it was really light to me and was easy to throw. I am looking forward to the Athletics Day because I might get a ribbon and lots of people come and watch and cheer us on, especially the running races. Emily
I really like it because I like any sport. Vortex is my favoutite because Mr. Williamson said if we got it in the goals we could have a week off. I was so close! I am looking forward to just having fun at the athletics day and when you have a break if your parents are there you can sit with them and maybe have a snack or lunch with them. Max
Cross Country Training - Middle R
On Wednesday, a group of students from grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 ran up Bowen’s Road for one kilometre and then ran back down for one kilometre. It was a steep run up the hill, but on the way down we cruised, while successfully dodging lots of rocks and sticks. Everyone was huffing and puffing on the way up; it wasn’t easy but we are working on building our strength and determination. When we got to the top, we stopped and enjoyed the view. We were surrounded by shady trees, sun seeping through the greenery and kangaroos fleeing around us. We felt proud of having made the effort and lots of us managed to run all the way up and back down. Our goal is to keep practising on this hill, which will make the track around Hanging Rock feel like a piece of cake.
Division Swimming - By Hillary and Hannah
Splash! go the swimmers into the pool with a somewhat graceful dive, trying their hardest for the fifty metres to get to the end and touch the wall. On Friday 27th of February, five amazing swimmers: Hannah A., Hillary, Jamie, Amy and Felix went to the interschool swimming competition. There were two competing in freestyle, two competing in backstroke, two in breaststroke and two in butterfly. It was serious competition; no one was there to mess around. Everyone was a great cheer squad, supporting everyone when it was their turn to swim. Jamie came first in backstroke and butterfly, Hannah came first in backstroke, Hillary came first in butterfly, Felix came 2nd and 3rd in his events and Amy came 4th in her events.
It was a really exciting day and everyone had lots of fun. Good luck to Jamie and Hannah who are off to Swan Hill for the Regional swimming event.
