Messages

Here we are already at the end of our first term for 2026.

Term One has been a hive of activity, with sporting events being a highlight for many. Our grade three to six students have represented us at interschool tennis, swimming and tee ball events – with exceptional results. Run The Rock was once again a wonderful day, with many students and families attending, running with and cheering for our biggest ever Hesket team.

Despite the weather delay, it was lovely to end the term with our whole-school athletics event this Wednesday. The sun shone for us and the students ran, jumped and threw with such enthusiasm. We are always so proud of the way our students come together on these occasions, supporting and encouraging each other and celebrating the effort that is shown.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the many families who volunteered their help. We are so appreciative of the way you give your time and just jump in and help out. Thank you also to those who came along to cheer on our athletes for the day.

Beyond the sporting arena and back in to classrooms, there has been much positive learning to reflect on this term. Congratulations to our Preps who have completed their first term at primary school, we are so proud of all they have achieved already.

We wish all our families a very happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.

Wellbeing News
Next term Hesket will be involved in a wellbeing program titled Branch Out. After community consultation, the co-designed Branch Out program was developed to help strengthen the capacity of the community to support children and youth wellbeing. The evidence-based, preventative whole-school model engages teachers, parents and students with tailor-made events and resources. A number of local schools have participated in this program funded by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, and have seen positive results from their involvement.

Learning how to manage and respond effectively to emotions while building resilience, will be taught to parents and teachers by trained mental health clinicians from Tuning in to Kids. Students will explore emotions (how to identify, name and understand them) with music and theatre in the program. Families will be notified of the parent session time next term. We look forward to learning some new skills next term.

From the Students

Making masks in Art in Junior W
In Visual Arts we have been using paper mache. We are using paper mache to make masks. We have been talking about identity and what we express, and what we reveal and conceal. The paper mache is very messy but lots of fun. The glue is made from flour and water like a pancake batter and we use newspaper to layer over a mould. We are making 3D forms to make a unique sculpture.

I am making a dragon mask. It is very challenging but fun- Kieran.

I am going to make a dragon mask. I like making the paper mache it is fun- Alice.

Tee Ball in Senior D
The girls' teeball team played four matches for the day, which were all very close and exciting. It was really fun, but also intense. Everybody had a great go. The last match was the hardest. We played against our biggest rivals, Tylden. They were very talented, but we ended up winning, meaning we had won all of our games for the day! This was a great milestone for our team. It turned out that we were in a two-way, first place tie with St. Mary’s. It was so close that the organisers had to do a recount of our runs. Our score of 45 made us the winners of the day. We were all filled with excitement and pride. We can’t wait for the next round. Good job teams!

The mixed team had an absolute ball! We won four of our matches and only lost one. The whole mixed team did well in both areas of fielding and batting. Some amazing catches were a key point of our victories. Our main strategy was rolling the ball to our teammates on base. The team tried hard and our effort did not go unnoticed. The Hesket Primary mixed team had Harry, Harvey, Hillary, Woody, Aurelia, Archer, Alex, Micah, Jasper, Grace, and Immanuel work together in a dynamic mix. Overall, in the mixed competition, we had a three-way, first place tie between Hesket, Tylden and St. Mary’s. It all came down to home runs. In the end, Tylden had a whopping 56 home runs and took the flag home. All of our team had a load of fun.By Harvey and Woody

Athletics Day in Middle RYesterday we had our school athletics day at Romsey Oval. It was so exciting getting the bus in the morning. The events we did were running, shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump and vortex. Everyone was so supportive cheering on the runners. Even if you didn’t win, you were happy to see the other students win.

I was proud of myself, I won 3 ribbons instead of when my goal was to win 1 – Kimberly

My favourite events were long jump and triple jump - Phoebe.

Easter Writing in Junior T
This week the Junior Class have been busy crafting and decorating letters to the Easter Bunny. It’s been a very exciting time brainstorming all of the kind things students want to tell him. Students are planning on leaving their letters out for him to read, and are hoping for a reply.

Happy Easter everyone!
