Fight MND - By Harvey and Woody
Motor neuron disease will waste and weaken your motor neurons. Motor neurons send messages to your spinal cord and brain. This can completely shut off your ability to walk, talk, breathe and swallow. This is why millions of people donate to help research for a cure to MND. Every day in Australia two people get diagnosed with MND and two people’s lives vanish in the same day. The fight MND fundraiser is a very important event every year. Your donation to Hesket Primary School’s Fight MND Fundraiser will go towards the researching for a cure for people with MND. Come in on Friday June 5th with free clothes and with a gold coin donation. Join the fight.
Soccer - By Jasper and Margot
On Tuesday a troop of Hesketeers got on a bus to go and show off their magnificent soccer skills in Gisborne. We shared a bus with Newham Primary School.
We got off the bus and put on our soccer boots and then we were ready to play. There was a quick speech about good sportsmanship then it was time for the games to begin. The games lasted about 20 minutes each. In the girls team, we had two wins, two draws and two losses. We were very grateful for our coach, Mick, who guided and motivated us throughout the day.
When the Mixed team arrived, we felt like we could take on the world. The Mixed team played the first Hesket game against Kyneton and experienced a loss, but still kept our heads up throughout the whole day. We powered through it all, eventually leading to a first and only goal against Newham. The Mixed team had a wild ride of surprises and excitement over the day, and although we didn’t win a game, we had a huge amount of fun, and came home with a day of memories. Thanks to Dave for being our coach for the day.
Goldfields Division Cross Country - By Ivy
Last Friday, Hannah, Jamie, Ellina and I all travelled to Castlemaine to compete in the Divsion Cross Country. To qualify, we had to finish in the top ten in our age groups at the Cobaw event at Hanging Rock a few weeks ago.
Hannah's race was first and she had to run 3km. It was a tough race and she was neck and neck with another runner the whole way. In the last 100m, the other runner sped ahead and came first; astonishingly, Hannah came second and qualified for the next round at St Arnaud next week.
My race was next and I also had to run 3km. It was challenging because I usually am a short distance runner. In the end, I came 5th and was exhausted at the finish line and felt like collapsing. I will also be going to St Arnaud next week.
Next up was Jamie and his field was very tough - especially as he was only running 2km, he knew it would be a fast race. He ran brilliantly and came 6th so will also be competing at the next level.
Ellina was the last runner to compete and unfortuntely she was caught up at the start line so lost contact with the front of the pack. She still had an incredible run and overtook many runners to make it from the back of the back to the middle. We just wonder where she might have placed if she had a different start. We'll have to wait until next year to see!
Overall it was great day!
Circuits in Science - By Alex
On Thursday last week we all had Science and learnt the power of electricity. Everyone’s circuits were making lights glow, buzzers beep and propellers spin. To make this all happen we connected batteries to wires and wires to machines to makes circuits. It was a group task that requires teamwork, persistence and patience. Overall it was a fun challenge that everyone loved. Thanks to Sam for such a fun lesson.
