From the Students
Music in My Suitcase - By Maceo On Wednesday the 3rd of June we had an incursion called, “Music In My Suitcase”. They did some drumming, played the saxophone and some singing. They sang the ABC song and also sang songs in different languages. Some of the students got up to play the tin whistles. I liked it because it was amazing and it had a good beat. It was so much fun. Thank you for coming to Hesket and sharing the music with us.
Cross Country - Division - By Hannah, Jamie and Ivy On Tuesday last week Ivy, Hannah and Jamie drove all the way to St Arnaud to compete in Regional Cross Country. The first race of the day for Hesket was the 12-13 girls which Hannah raced in. It was a difficult course, very slippery and hilly. In the end you had to come in the top 10 to get to State and Hannah came 9th.
The next race for Hesket was the 11 girls, so that meant Ivy’s race was next. Like Hannah's, it was also a difficult race, very slippery so luckily no one got hurt. Overall, Ivy came 25th and had a great day.
After that was Jamie’s race and it was the 9-10 boys it was a very challenging race. Jamie came 23rd. This race was particularly fast and even though he didn't qualify, he still had a lot of fun.
We look forward to hearing how Hannah goes at State early next term.
Debating - Maggie (4) and Esme In Middle R we are debating and everybody has started really well. There are up to three people in a group, and we are debating about phones, jobs, homework and more breaks at school. We have had to think of three simple reasons to argue against the opposing team’s opinion, then make our reasons stronger by using persuasive context. We wrote on a piece of butcher’s paper our three reasons to brainstorm on how we can persuade our audience to believe us. The groups have been working impeccably together and we are nearly ready to write our scripts to present them to our judges.
Tournament of Minds - Hillary and Caitlin M As Term Three comes closer, we are starting to prepare for Tournament of Minds (T.O.M). Tournament of Minds happens all over Australia and in some other countries too. It is where schools are given six weeks to come up with a ten-minute play from a prompt from one the four categories: Language Literature, The Arts, Social Sciences and S.T.E.M. Over the past few years Hesket has won the first round and gone to the second. We have started the auditions for T.O.M this year, plenty of students have shown up with eagerness to try. The first part of the audition was a written piece of paper with questions that challenged you and made you think outside the box. Next, we did challenges, like finding more uses for everyday items, acting out different scenes and growing our confidence in acting. In the end there will only be two T.O.M teams, each team can only have seven members. We are so excited for the challenges that T.O.M gives us every year. What's Been Happening in the Yard - Phoebe, Caitlin T and Maggie (3) At Hesket, we have been playing different games like down ball, basketball and tag. Kids have also been playing in the sandpit, on the oval but everyone has needed to be careful around the cubby house because there have been crazy games of chasey around there (but so much fun!) Everyone’s having an amazing time, especially us! Everyone has someone to play with so no one will get left out. At Hesket everyone has an exhilarating time in the yard!
Weaving in Art - Adeline and James B In Art we are learning how to weave. At recess and lunch Stacy comes out to help people who are weaving at those times. Weaving is a fun but simple thing and easy to learn. You can make a loom at home using a piece of cardboard two sticks or pencils and cut little rectangles in the cardboard. You need wool and thin wool and sticky tape to stick it down. Ask Stacy how to start weaving!
