We have allocated 15 minute time slots to ensure families have enough time to discuss your child/ren's Semester One report, especially with the absence of report comments.
Nest Box Hotels - Booked Out! - By Immanuel
On Thursday this week in Science, all of the school went outside in the Hesket winter morning to peep into the nesting boxes we put up in November. The boxes give little critters and birds a place to call home. So, you may be asking, why does all this matter? We need to check on how they are going, so Emma from Newham and District Landcare, very kindly let us borrow a pole camera to check to see how the nest boxes were going. But we had to do this all without disturbing the animals. All of them were empty but one, the one that housed a sugar glider! (We only saw one but suspect there may be more because sugar gliders usually hang out in groups and party - not just by themselves!).jpg)

A blurry photo but definitely a sugar glider (or two!)
Swimming - By Hillary and Amy
This week we caught the bus every day to the Kyneton pool for swimming lessons. Every day we get into our groups and jump into the pool to learn new skills - today we even had to 'fall' into the pool in our clothes to replicate getting caught in an emergency. Through the splashes and fun, we've practised remaining calm and what to do in emergency situations. We are all looking forward to Friday's swimming because it's always a fun day where the swimming teachers set up lots of fun activities.
Thank you to Kyneton swimming pool and to all the instructors for having us.
Tournament of Minds
Each year at Hesket we participate in the Tournament of Minds challenge, otherwise known as TOM. TOM is a fun opportunity to get into our creative zones to create a 10 minute performance that responds to one of four challenges:
- Language and Literature - Create a short radio play
- STEM - Create and edit a movie clip using minature figures
- The Arts - Escape from an Escher artwork
- Social Sciences - Explore fast fashion and ethical, sustainable products.
This year Hesket will enter two teams of seven and in exactly seven weeks time, will present our performances to a judging panel.
Sounds easy? It's not! We can't have any help from adults, our performance space is exactly 3m x 3m, we are only allowed to spend $50 on costumes and props, and everything needs to be made by us. Obviously we have lots of other schoolwork to do so we will be working together on the holidays, before school and in our break times. Don't worry, it's super fun and we'll keep you posted on how we are going.
Term Three Production with Storyboard Drama
Last week Paul Canlan from Storyboard Drama came to Hesket to help us start planning four mini movies for each of the classes; these will premiere at our Term Three concert! We had about fifteen minutes to come up with ideas and they are all spectacular. Everyone had an amazing, fun time with Paul and he is a laugh. We won’t give away all of the ideas but will give you some clues. Three words from each story are:
Everyone is so excited to start next term and we are sure that we will all do a terrific job and know we will have the time of our lives.
