You've heard of TROPFEST, this year we're bringing you HESKFEST, Hesket's Largest Short Film Festival.
Last Week in Science - Middle R and Senior D - Felix, Phoebe and Harry
Last week in Science we explored solids, liquids and gasses in our introduction to this term’s Chemical Science unit. Our learning really took off when we saw how carbon dioxide takes up more space as a solid than as a gas in a film canister rocket. To make a canister rocket, we added dry ice and water together. The ice sublimated in the water (changed to gas). The gas expanded and because there was nowhere for the gas to go, it forced its way out by popping the lid off. The rockets were cool and the third launch went the highest!
Last Week in Science - Junior W and Junior T
What better way to explore how materials can be combined in mixtures than to launch the biggest bubbles Hesket has ever seen! We explored the science of bubbles and how to combine materials to make bubbles that are strong, stretchy and will resist drying out.

Drama with Paul - Felix, Phoebe and Harry
This week we had our first proper session of drama with Paul. We started by doing some 'getting to know you' games and then we practised, acting out a whole lot of different emotions. Paul taught us his number one rule - to try and truly feel the feeling that you are trying to act. He said that if you try and force it, it will look over the top and ridiculous on camera. His second rule is to always be quiet on the set because the camera catches even the tiniest little sound. We can't wait to see our scripts, find out what all of our roles are and get started!
This Term in Art - Felix, Phoebe and Harry
This term in Art we have just started learning about Georgia O'Keeffe. We have been learning that Georgia was a painter who loved nature. For this reason, she painted lots of flowers, landscapes of deserts, and even bones. So far we have learnt that Georgia loved bold colours but in her day this was unusual so some people disapproved of her art. She was also good friends with Frida Kahlo and was an inspiration to Yayoi Kusama, who we've also learnt lots about.
State Cross Country Championships - Hannah
On Thursday 16th July l went to Yarra Glen Race Course to compete in State Cross Country. The course was difficult, all on grass, up hills and very slippery. If you came in the top six you qualified for 'Team Vic' which represents Victoria at Nationals. It was a tough competition, everyone there was incredibly good at running. In the end I came 61st and managed to run a PB which was an amazing achievement.
Thank you to Felix, Phoebe and Harry for pulling this week's newsletter together!
