Next Friday will begin with a Book Week parade. While a low key affair, parents are very welcome to come along to see how creative everyone has been this year. What will the teachers do this year?
Toilet Upgrade Update
As many of you are aware, we recenlty learned that the student toilets would be upgraded. The project is currently out to tender and we look forward to meeting with the successful project team shortly to talk about what will be included in the project.
Second Hand Uniforms
If anyone has any second hand, in good condition uniform that they wish to donate, it would be greatly apppreciated. It is always handy for accidents or slips or is handed on to families who would benefit from them.
If your chid does come home in a borrowed change of clothes, please wash and return them at your earliest convenience.
HESKFLIX - Lights, Camera, Action!
This week filming stepped up and we are expecting the last of the footage to be shot next week. If students are absent next Wednesday, they may miss being filmed in their grade's movie so we'd love to see everyone here; this is particularly relevant to Middle W who will work with Paul for the majority of the time next week.
Some things that will be useful to know on the big night:
- We are expecting students to arrive by 6.30pm. At this time, the stars can walk the red carpet in their fancy attire, posing for photos under our HESKFLIX backdrop
- By 7pm, we ask that our audience is seated, ready for our MC to introduce the first cast
- We expect that the evening should conclude at around 8pm or shortly afterwards
- The students will sit together; you need not purchase a ticket for them - they are the stars after all!
- If you have friends or family that are unable to attend the premiere, we will have copies of the films available for purchase for a small cost after the show.
From the Students
Tournament of Minds
Over the past six weeks, 14 students have been working on Tournament Of Minds (T.O.M.). In T.O.M. you have to complete two challenges, the long term where you choose a challenge out of four categories and create a 10-minute play over six weeks then presenting your solution to the judges.
The other challenge to complete is called the Spontaneous, you are given a question or challenge to solve and present in four minutes. Hesket’s two teams chose the Arts challenge and the Language Literature challenge.
The Arts challenge was to research the artist M.C. Escher and a non-visual artist of your choosing and show how blending their art together can inspire future artists.
In the Language Literature challenge, since the ban of social media for under 16s, they are looking for a different type of entertainment. You had to create a 20-part modern radio play series, pitching the first three episodes, (each episode 2 minutes) to 3TOMFM, trying to get your story on the radio.
On Saturday the two teams went to Girton Grammar in Bendigo to present our solutions. We were up against many teams; it was exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. The Arts team solution to the question about inspiring future artists by blending their art together was that by blending M.C Escher and our chosen no visual artist (Harry Houdini) could inspire future artist to push their minds and brains to the limit.
The Language Literature team’s solution, two story writers wanted to get their story on 3TOM FM. Their story was about three siblings waking up and their dad going missing; their neighbour comes and tells them that he heard their dad being kidnapped. The siblings go and search around their house for clues, and find a frantic note written by their dad while he was being kidnapped. Both the teams worked very hard for six weeks, they should be very proud of themselves.
Athletics - By Grace and Ivy
On Friday most of Senior D and some of Middle R went to Bendigo, race track centre to compete in the District athletics. Everybody got off the bus with nerves but a smile on their face, ready to compete. Throughout the day, everyone did their very best and was proud of what they did, and they should be after every event. The weather was perfect throughout the day. Some people made it to the next round (Division) and will be competing later on in the term. Hopefully everybody was happy with what they did, and hopefully everyone got a big rest. Great effort to everyone who competed.
Basketball Clinics with Aleks - By Aurelia and Friends
On Monday 17th August, Hesket Primary School had Aleks come from Sunbury Basketball to teach and encourage all the students to play basketball. He taught all of the grades and played fun games. Aleks will come every Monday for the next four weeks by the end of the clinic we will all know how to play basketball.
- Maggie: Red light green light was really fun
- Alex: There was a lot of fun games like big boat little boat
- Max: I loved dribbling though our legs
- Rory: Big ship little ship was really fun
- Malakai: My favourite was shooting
- Heidi: Mini basketball game
- Raffi: Big ship little ship was so fun.
That sounds like big ship little ship was a real hit!
Science Week - By Grade Junior T
Today at Hesket we celebrated Science Week with our parents invited in for our lesson. We thought it was so fun when Science Sam made the bubbles with dry ice and detergent. He is so talented and skilled in what he does with us. We felt excited, curious and surprised when the bubbles burst into a cloud of gas right in front of our eyes! When he put the dry ice into the bowl it eventually disappeared with a look of frost. It was amazing to see!
